It's been a long, snowy, and stormy winter. So let’s celebrate Earth Day by giving back to our beautiful community! Grab your gloves, buckets, and enthusiasm, and join fellow FRA members for a club grounds, beach, and neighborhood cleanup. Together, we can keep our surroundings pristine while enjoying the fresh air and good company.

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

What to Bring:

If a need to vote on an unscheduled topic arises, it will be done electronically after the meeting in order to ensure clear and well written resolutions to vote on, and broad membership participation in voting. Can lightning strike twice? Last summer, Don Campbell and Tonya Shevenell set a new FRA record, drawing the largest crowd ever for a music event — 115 members and guests! This July 4th weekend, they’re back—ready to deliver another unforgettable evening.

Don Campbell has shared stages with country greats like Keith Urban and Toby Keith, but at FRA he creates something even more special: an intimate night of heartfelt music. Expect timeless favorites like Dan Fogelberg’s Leader of the Band and Neil Young’s Heart of Gold, woven together with Don’s original songs from albums like The Dust Never Settles. Between numbers, Don’s warm storytelling makes the performance feel like sitting around a campfire with an old friend.

Tonya Shevenell, Don’s longtime collaborator, joins on bass and harmonies. In addition to her musical talents, Tonya is also a beloved children’s book author—many members cherished the chance to have their copies of The Maine Birthday Book signed at last year’s show.

Their duo performances bring a unique blend of original tunes, folk, country, and classic covers from artists like Dan Fogelberg, Eddie Rabbitt, and John Denver. The result is a sound that bridges generations and genres while feeling deeply personal.

Our Pollinator Friends at Meadow Woods (8 Jul 2026)

Pollinator pathways are vibrant, pesticide-free corridors of native plants that provide essential food and habitat for pollinating insects and birds. Even small green spaces — from window boxes to roadside gardens — can make a big difference in supporting these vital species.

Join us for an inspiring presentation by Tom Bradbury, Executive Director of the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, on “Our Pollinator Friends at Meadow Woods.”

Just a five-minute drive from our clubhouse, Meadow Woods Preserve spans 371 acres of beautiful natural space with trails, gathering areas, a dog park, a welcome cottage, and educational programs. It’s also home to the Patsy Bray Pollinator Meadow, a haven for bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators.

Tom’s presentation will cover:

An Overview of Meadow Woods Preserve: history, features, and activities
Patsy Bray Pollinator Meadow: its creation, pollinator species, and kid-friendly educational opportunities
Pollinator Pathways: why pollinators matter, the risks they face, and simple steps homeowners can take to support them

Mingle with your neighbors and meet new friends at our community cookouts. Join us again this year for a fun-filled Wednesday evening cookout hosted by Jim and Norann Oleson.
We will start by holding cookouts after the new Lecture Series, scheduled for Wednesday afternoons on July 8th, 15th, and August 5th. If folks want to have cookouts more often, we can add other dates.

Sustainable Landscaping in Maine (15 Jul 2026)

Please join us for an inspiring presentation on sustainable landscaping with Alethea Cariddi, Associate Director of Sustainability at the University of New England (UNE).

Alethea will showcase several of UNE’s innovative green landscaping initiatives—many of which offer practical ideas for our own properties. Highlights include:

Integrated Pest Management – creating habitats for mosquito-eating birds and bats, and planting natural mosquito-repellent plants.
Native Prairie Garden – reducing landscaping energy needs with deep-rooted, hardy, non-invasive plants that support native butterflies and essential insects.
Pollinator Garden – designed to host Monarch butterflies.
Edible Campus Initiative – featuring a beehive, blueberry garden, chestnut trees, and community food projects.
Rain Gardens – a low-impact, sustainable way to manage stormwater on paved and rooftop surfaces.

Beyond her professional role, Alethea is also an adjunct instructor at UNE and holds a Master of Science in Education from Alfred University. In her free time, she enjoys tending her goat farm, raising goats and making cheese for family and friends.

Maine Farmland Trust works to protect farmland, support farmers, and ensure the future of farming in our state. Stacy will share:

An overview of Maine farms today
The consumer benefits of choosing local foods
Practical ways members can support local farms
Online resources for markets, newsletters, and events

Stacy brings both expertise and personal experience. She and her husband run Broadturn Farm in Scarborough, where they live with their two daughters. With more than 20 years of engagement with Maine Farmland Trust, Stacy is passionate about sustaining Maine’s farming heritage and connecting communities with local food.
