FRA President’s Letter 2019

Dear Fortunes Rocks Association Members,

It is hard to believe the kick off for the 2019 Fortunes Rocks Association summer season is less than two weeks away.

Membership renewal went well.  Thank you for responding promptly and thank you Barbara Ryan who headed the membership renewal process.  All but three members have renewed for 2019.  We will invite families from the waiting list to join until we reach our membership limit.  Bonnie Buechs advises me there are six families on our membership waiting list.

2019 is shaping up to be a good year for the Association.  We will, of course, continue to hold our socials on the fourth Saturday of June, July and August.  Our thanks to Jean Whitehurst for organizing the socials.  Bill Murray and Jim Oleson will host the Labor Day cookout on the beach again this year, always a good time.  We are still looking for someone to host the Pot Luck Dinner on Columbus Day weekend.  If you are interested, please let me know.

This year’s summer coastal mixer, a joint get together with our friends at the Biddeford Pool Community Center and Hills Beach is scheduled for August 18th.  Mark your calendar.

New this year, Jeff Leman is organizing a Once a Month Golf Outingfor members and their guests.  Jeff plans to reserve tee times at a different local course each month. The first outing is scheduled for Friday, June 28th.  If you are interested please let Jeff know at: jdleman@optonline.net

John Redman will continue as Chancellor of Fortunes Rocks University.  John has several informative sessions planned, including the ever popular wine tasting evening with Alper, tentatively scheduled for August 15th.  Watch your email and the Association web page for information on FRU events.

Alper Caglayan is heading our music event again this year. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, July 14 and will feature Berklee educated singer and guitarist Lindsay Straw.  She will be accompanied by her mandolin partner.  Lindsay and her partner will do a mix of bluegrass, Celtic and lots from the 60s and 70s.  Should be a terrific evening.

For our tennis members Frank Erath and Dot Starkweather tell me the tennis court is in great shape and ready to go.

It should be a great summer. I look forward to seeing everyone at the general membership meeting at 10 o’clock Saturday, June 22, at the Club House, and again that evening at 6:00 for our first social of the year.
