Hope you all had a great 4thof July week. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. If you find yourself complaining about the heat, think of last winter. Here’s what’s coming up:
July 11, Wednesday, 3-5pm: To Parents, and Grandparents…Don’t forget that Wednesday, July 11, is when you can make a pretty sea shell frame with our local artist, Jacquie T. Last year was lots of fun! An adult must accompany children under the age of 6. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org so we know how many of you will participate.
July 15, Sunday: Music at the Clubhouse: Troy Ramey is coming to FRA on Sunday, July 15 at 6:00 pm to turn around our chairs. Don’t miss this live performance by part crooner, part troubadour, and all storyteller, who evokes memories with each note he sings. Troy’s songs are available on iTunes and Spotify. Further information about this gifted singer-songwriter can be found at troyramey.com. Click here to view the brochure. BYOB and chair. We will be “passing the hat” for donations for the steeple repairs at St. Phillips Church (checks may be made out to St. Phillips Church), the only church in Fortunes Rocks. If you would like to know a little more about this church, click here.
July 19, Thursday, 5-7 pm: Fortunes Rocks Association University: “Adventures in Genealogy: Getting to REALLY Know Your Family.” Ray Leavitt and Jeff Leman will share their extensive experience researching their personal genealogical heritage in a focused instruction session that will set each participant on the road to researching his/her own family. To sign up or for more information, please contact John Redman @ email@example.com or 301-807-1742. Here is a link to the full schedule. There is still time to sign up! If you have not had your registration confirmed by Friday, please call or email John. There were some issues with the email address on the first notice which have been corrected.
July 28, 2018, 6-8 pm: Next Social
July 29, 2018, 1pm: Tennis Social
August 12, 5-7pm Coastal Mixer: Each year for the past five years, the Biddeford Pool Community Center has hosted a Coastal Mixer. All of the Biddeford coastal communities are invited to join for a social opportunity on the lawn of the BP Community Center. This year the co-hosts will be your FRA and Hills Beach Associations (many of our members overlap). It will be held rain or shine. This event is always well attended
Sunday, August 19,7 pm: Margo Alley and Peter McPheeters of the BP Community Historical Society will present a slideshow and talk on “The Inns and Hotels of Biddeford Pool and Fortunes Rocks.” There will be history, great photos, brochures, and memorabilia of eight or more large hotels and inns that existed in this coastal area at the turn of the century, one having 300 rooms! Location is upstairs at the BP Community center. Cost is $5. Coffee and Cookies will be served. Please R.S.V.P.to Carol Bassett @ 207-282-2280 or firstname.lastname@example.org
New Opportunity!! Men’s golf: We already have an informal women’s golf group. Jeff Leman has generously proposed the following: For any men of any skill level who want a round of golf from time to time with other FRA members, here’s how it would work. If you are interested in being notified when tee times are being scheduled, simply email me to get on the list. I will book 2 – 4 tee times at a local and reasonably priced course, starting with Willowdale. We will choose one day a week, probably a Tuesday to Thursday with tee times starting at 9:30 or so. I will notify all interested players a week in advance by email and those who want to play, just email me. Initially, I’ll just set the foursomes in the order the email responses received. Later on, if this is successful and of interest, we can arrange foursomes by handicap so there will be players of different skills in each foursome. For those interested, we can follow with lunch at the course. No pressure, just fun! If interested, please contact me @ email@example.com
Columbus day potluck Saturday, 6-8, October 6 at the BP Fire Barn (maybe!): Two couple hosts are still needed; the event is at risk if nobody comes forward soon! We need to commit soon to hold on to the firehouse building. John & Ellen Tighe, our prior hosts, prepared an extensive booklet on how to chair.
Building and maintenance notes: We recently upgraded the electrical system in the clubhouse. We need a new roof and trim and are currently seeking bids for the work. Our insurance policy is up for renewal in September. We are reviewing needed changes and obtaining estimates. Our flowerboxes are up. If they look thirsty, please donate your water jug!
Newsletter Photos: At our last board meeting, Jacquie pointed out that our newsletter photos are quite old. Does anyone have more recent photos of FRA events that we can post?
Community Events: This is the first year that UNE will have a football team. The first home game is Sept 8 at 1:00. We are planning to participate in tailgating to support the team!
