Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, Please Shine Down on Me….
I find myself singing that song to my 2-year-old grandson a lot these days. It has been another cool, wet spring, but to look on the bright side, every cloud has a silver lining and any drought concerns from last year have been washed away!
Memorial Day and all the magnificence that is summer in Maine is right around the corner. The FRA board and committee chairs met on Saturday and things are gearing up for another great season of socials, tennis, children’s programs, music, and some new events. Stay tuned and please check the website, fortunesrocks.org, regularly. You will find a full calendar of FRA events, tide information, weather buoy data, and links to Heart of Biddeford and Engine to check out what’s happening in Biddeford. Membership Renewal: Online membership renewal is up and running and we urge you to renew soon. Last year we were very close to our membership limit of 115 and we already have a list of people waiting to join. The deadline for current members to renew is June 15, after that date, we are open to new memberships. If you allow your membership to lapse, you are in danger of losing your spot. On the website, there are a few changes to the “About” menu. We have added a new “Information for Prospective Members” page and the “Membership Renewal” tab is now called “Online Application” and is available to new members after approval by the membership committee.
Parking Passes: Parking passes will be mailed upon receipt of payment of dues. If you have both a summer and winter address, please indicate on the application form which address you would like the passes mailed to. Please remember to display your parking pass when using the FRA parking lot. With full membership, parking spaces are at a premium – two passes are provided for convenience, please have only one car in the lot at a time. We would also like to remind you that the parking lot, clubhouse, tennis court, and private beach area are for the use of members and their family and guests only. These privileges should not be offered to renters.
Tennis News: The tennis court weathered the winter well and should be in great shape once we have a bit of dry weather. The net will be up and the tapes down soon.
Children’s Program: Thanks to organizers Renate Riggs and Lynne Cox, the children’s program is in great shape this year with six activities planned. The first event is “Coffee and Kids”, designed to help get parents and grandparents of young children in FRA together to help facilitate the next generation of kids growing up in FRA in getting to know each other. Coffee and Kids will be held on Monday, July 3, 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the clubhouse. A full list of children’s activities can be found on the website calendar. If you would like to organize an activity, please contact Renate, rwriggs@aol.com, or Lynne, m.lynnecox@gmail.com.
