Please join us for an inspiring presentation on sustainable landscaping with Alethea Cariddi, Associate Director of Sustainability at the University of New England (UNE).

Alethea will showcase several of UNE’s innovative green landscaping initiatives—many of which offer practical ideas for our own properties. Highlights include:

  • Integrated Pest Management – creating habitats for mosquito-eating birds and bats, and planting natural mosquito-repellent plants.
  • Native Prairie Garden – reducing landscaping energy needs with deep-rooted, hardy, non-invasive plants that support native butterflies and essential insects.
  • Pollinator Garden – designed to host Monarch butterflies.
  • Edible Campus Initiative – featuring a beehive, blueberry garden, chestnut trees, and community food projects.
  • Rain Gardens – a low-impact, sustainable way to manage stormwater on paved and rooftop surfaces.

Beyond her professional role, Alethea is also an adjunct instructor at UNE and holds a Master of Science in Education from Alfred University. In her free time, she enjoys tending her goat farm, raising goats and making cheese for family and friends.
