Don Campbell - What a Night!

Don Campbell Show - What a Night!

July 2025

Until now, our biggest musical draw at the FRA Pavilion was Troy Ramey — yes, the Troy Ramey who made Celine Dion cry on The Voice. But last night, Don Campbell raised the bar, drawing the largest crowd ever for a music event at FRA — with 115 members and guests registered!

While our modest Pavilion might not match the scale of Gillette Stadium — where Don and his band once opened for Keith Urban and Toby Keith — it certainly provided the perfect, intimate setting for a memorable evening. Don and bassist Tonya Shevenell delivered a heartfelt performance, and even Mother Nature cooperated, clearing away the rain and thunder just in time for the show.

Don took us on a musical journey with timeless favorites like Leader of the Band (a touching tribute by Dan Fogelberg to his father), Heart of Gold, and other classics. He shared personal stories between songs, connecting with the crowd in a way that felt like gathering around a campfire with an old friend. We also got a taste of his original work, including selections from his acclaimed album, The Dust Never Settles.

The pre-show reception was a hit, giving members time to reconnect over our “mystery cocktail” — expertly mixed by our in-house mixologists. And in a delightful bonus, Tonya Shevenell, who is also a beloved children’s book author, signed copies of her books, including The Maine Birthday Book that celebrates the wildlife and geography of Maine through the birthday stories and special wishes of animal friends.

The crowd’s reaction? “Two thumbs up!” “Let’s do more like this!” “What a vibe!”

And a big thank-you to everyone who helped maximize parking by carpooling or walking — making space for all to enjoy the music under the summer skies.
