Don Campbell Trio

Following last summer’s record-breaking performance, Don Campbell returned to FRA—this time as a trio, joined by bassist Tonya Shevenell and violinist Andy Happel.

Don took us on a musical journey through timeless favorites by Neil Young, Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver, Roger Miller, Jimmy Buffett, Gordon Lightfoot, Dan Fogelberg, Kenny Rogers, and many others. We also enjoyed several of Don’s original songs, each accompanied by the story that inspired it:

• “Red, White and Blue Heart” — a poignant tribute to NFL star Roger Tillman, who was tragically killed in Afghanistan after enlisting in the Army Rangers.
• “Backyard Holiday” — inspired by an unexpected encounter with an old friend at a gas station, following a day when Don gave three shows in Boston, Portsmouth, and Portland.
• “Room for Love” — inspired by overhearing a bride-to-be discussing her wedding registry with her future mother-in-law at Jordan Marsh.

The audience joined in on party favorites such as “Let’s Get Together” by the Youngbloods, making the evening feel as much like a community sing-along as a concert.

The evening ended with a moving rendition of the National Anthem.
